1/1/2007 - January 2007 Newsletter
We concluded December with a great deal of activity and look forward to a very busy winter and spring. We appreciate the many year-end contributions you provided to us. Last year we accomplished many great things and, by the grace of God, this year we will accomplish greater things.
In this month's newsletter, we provide information on four very important subjects. The first is a copy of a letter we sent to the Georgia Bible Curriculum Committee on the use of the textbook, "The Bible and Its Influence," in Georgia public schools. You may recall our February 2006 Educational Update which addressed the same problem in Alabama. We expect a renewed effort in the Alabama Legislature this year.
Our Educational Update is an explanation of the Alabama Supreme Court's decision in the sweepstakes case. Milton McGregor won round one in the trial court and probably made several million dollars between then and the time the Alabama Supreme Court decided that the "Megasweeps" were unlawful. We hope the governor will call a special session this year to deal with gambling in Alabama.
On November 27, 2006, we provided testimony to the Alabama Department of Public Health on proposed amendments to abortion clinic regulations. We addressed several particulars and opposed the ACLU's testimony that the proposals would be unconstitutional. We believe our testimony was favorably received and will give you a report when we have the approved regulations.
We have had a number of inquiries about the "Real ID Act of 2005." What is it? Remember the scenes from old World War II movies where the man in the black leather coat says "show me your papers"? Well, the papers may now be in the form of plastic, but the net effect may be the same.
Remember Sanctity of Human Life Sunday, January 21, 2007 (some may use January 28). Urge your church to recognize this important anniversary and to pray for the unborn whose lives are sacrificed in an uncaring culture. Visit this website for information: www.beavoice.net.
As we begin the year, we again reiterate the necessity of your financial support for our efforts. As we say time and again, the more support we have, the more we can do. We know there will be a great deal to be done and we urge you to join us in that effort with your financial and prayer support. We very much appreciate all that you do for us.
Yours very truly,
A. Eric Johnston
